• Who can apply for the IFYP?
    - Students with Chinese ID/passports including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan are not applicable.
    - IELTS minimum of 5.0 / a minimum score of 40 in the TOEFL iBT test / a minimum of 85 in Duolingo English Test (DET) or equivalent English level
    - Country-specific high school examination
    - Other qualification will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Applicants may be offered an interview and/or written test as an entrance assessment.
 
  • How many cohorts does IFYP 2025/26 have?
    - There are September and January cohorts. The September cohort runs from September to April, and the January cohort runs from January to July. Admission for the January cohort will start shortly. Please stay tuned!
 
 
  • How much is the tuition fee of IFYP?
    - The tuition fee of IFYP is HKD$ 80,000 (~USD$10,100) including free on-campus accommodation during students’ two semesters of study (utility fees not included).
 
  • Is there an application fee?
    - Yes, a non-refundable application fee of HKD$ 650 (~USD$ 84) will be charged when submitting your online application.
 
  • Can I apply before my results release?
    - Yes, a conditional offer of admission will be made based on the conditions outlined in your application. Applicants who subsequently meet these conditions will receive formal admission upon confirmation by the university.
 
  • When will I know the application results?
    - The results will be updated in your online application system approximately 1-2 months after your successful submission.
 
  • Should I pay the tuition fee in one instalment?
    - Your tuition fee will be separated into 2 insatlments, the first instalment should be paid base on your Letter of Acceptance. 
 
  • What is registration fee?
    - The registration fee is the sum amount of the administrative fees of HKD$ 1,250 and the first instalment of tuition fee.
 
  • How much is the first instalment of the registration fee?
    - The fees will be stated in the Letter of Acceptance.
     
  • Is the registration fee refundable?
    - No, it is non-refundable. However, the university may consider cases on an individual basis.
 
 
  • Is there a deadline for payment?
    - Yes, the deadline will be stated in the Letter of Acceptance.
 
  • Do I need a visa to study in Hong Kong?
    - Yes, a student e-Visa is a must for non-local students. A person who enters Hong Kong as a visitor cannot become a student at a school, university or any other educational institutions.
 
  • Should I apply for the student e-Visa on my own?
    - The Admissions Office will apply for your student e-Visa after you have paid a non-refundable tuition fee in the online application system.
 
  • How long does the e-Visa application process take?
    - The process takes approximately 6-8 weeks at the Immigration Department after all required documents have been received.
 
  • How will I receive my student e-Visa?
    - The university will email your student e-Visa to the registered email address you provided after it has been issued by the Immigration Department.

  •  Can I choose any degree programme after completing an international foundation year?
    - Yes, once you complete the IFYP and fulfill the HKSYU Undergraduate admissions requirement for IFYP students, you will be eligible to study our undergraduate programmes.
